My Connecticut NPR Debut

by Holly on September 24, 2011

Coming soon! I have the pleasure of sharing the “radio stage” tomorrow with my dear friend Bruce Barber, his co-host Duo Dickinson, webmaster Gary Choronzy, and two folks I have never met. The Real Life Survival Guide tapes a weekly show aired on Sunday afternoons at 4:30 pm on CT NPR……as well as podcasts available through a little spot y’all might have heard of called I-Tunes. These free-flowing conversations address all of the little, everyday things that “niggle” at you, and the ever-changing cast of characters contribute their thoughts/answers/queries on a myriad of topics.  The recordings take place in and around New Haven, which is a “homecoming” of sorts for me. My mother and her sisters grew up there, and I have a boatload of lovely memories visiting my Gran, an Aunt, and a few cousins who made New Haven their home.

I can’t wait. Any time I spend with Bruce and Gary is fun, from tennis to earthquakes to college reunions. My guess is that there will be miles of laughter involved. I’ll let you know when and how you can eavesdrop on this lively conversation!

OK, so Irene has come and (mostly) gone.  Dehumidifiers and fans still going in the basement. I cannot complain.  Seventy hours without power. Fifteen inches of water in my basement no biggie compared to a lot of other things…..one friend 8 days no power, one friend blindsided by nasty stuff, many with nothing. Thank you for only giving me what I can manage, with help.

Mr Eddie is now a million dollar man. He is in holistic care and has more supplements than most humans address with their food. I am cooking organic food for my pooch and have a calendar with what day to add what to what food.  Coffee/herb grinder now doggie pill grinder. Good news is he  is happier and his skin is better after a few days. Now to wean him off the steroid. And get test results. He is my angel boy.

Oh, and did I forget to mention being in an earthquake during the New Haven Open with my pal Bruce Barber? I didn’t feel a thing, nor did Bruce, but Marion Bartoli did! Check out LiveFromCt.com, and the Real Life Survival Guide………..

And then there is me. Lots of balls up in the air. Lots of things to be decided in next two weeks.

Blessed. Loved.  Loving. Respected. Respectful. Lucky woman.

H.

Holly’s Gone A Lot of Places Lately

June 11, 2011

I have not been asleep at the wheel, but have surely been spinning that wheel! I am continuing to work on that Top Secret consulting project, all the while working on drumming up a few more. Should you need sourcing, merchandising, or simple brainstorming, I’m your gal. Cashmere is not my only strength. I’ve been [...]

Holly Go Lately Homeowner

April 25, 2011

One of the many hazards of winter in New England, not to mention a 50′s vinyl sided one story ranch house, is an ice dam in the gutter…..Mine collapsed almost two months ago. “Discovery” of said situation revealed issues in the wood behind the siding. My beloved friend Julee was visiting last week when the worker-bees [...]

Holly’s Last Few Weeks

April 16, 2011

It’s been a busy few weeks out here, so sorry I’ve been “absent”. Have been working diligently on helping a friend source product all over the world, which has been a real blast. Lots of trips in and out of NYC, much to Eddie’s dismay! He is loving having his “mother” home. I am honestly [...]

Holly Go Lately

March 24, 2011

Where has Holly gone lately? She’s been busy, though the ice/hail/snow/rain mix from last night quashed her plans to head into NYC today. She’s had client conference calls, and all the follow up that accompanies said. Eddie was such a big furball that he had to get a haircut, and now resembles a one year [...]

In Style Magazine, November 2008

March 24, 2011

I was asked by a dear friend to “judge” a group of sweaters. Given that these were all available at your local mall, and they had to be $250. and under, none of them were knitted to the standards of a Scottish or Italian sweater. However, it was an interesting experiment, this “blind test” was! [...]

Cashmere Basics

March 24, 2011

Cashmere Basics 101   So have you often wondered about the disparity in prices on that ever-so-noble fibre, Cashmere? Why your local department store will have a cashmere sweater for $99.00 and your local high-end specialty store has what looks to be the same thing for $398.00? I am here to tell you that they [...]
